Fort Pierce to Stuart via Cape Canaveral

The route along State Route (SR) A1A from Fort Pierce to Cocoa Beach is the quintessential ride of (Atlantic) east-coast Florida. There are approximately seventy miles of beaches along the first leg of this route.

Beach access points are abundant and well marked for those who want to stop and enjoy the sand, salt air, and sight of open ocean.

You will pass the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum, Sebastian Inlet State Park, and travel within a few miles of the Kennedy Space Center. The latter is not on this route, but would be an easy diversion. Be warned, a visit to the Space Center can occupy an entire day.

The route then heads inland and south from Cocoa Beach through interior wetlands.

There are convenient rest stops at Sebastian Inlet, Alan Shepard Park, and the Kenansville Country Store which is considered a "must visit" point on the route.

After passing through the town of Okeechobee on the shores of the lake of that name, the route heads east to the town of Stuart and finishes at the Cracker Barrel country store which offers good food at reasonable prices.
